Phoebe dragged herself out of bed with the first rays of sunlight as they crept across the sky. It was late for her since she was usually up well before dawn and at the oven, baking. She rarely overslept, even though she was heading toward exhaustion with a side of burnout thanks to her packed schedule. Except, this morning, when her alarm went off, she’d done something that was a rarity and turned it off.

And why was that? Graham.

She laid the blame squarely on his shoulders. Because he’d touched her. Because of the way he’d made her feel, like a desirable woman. The mind-melding orgasm he’d given her against her car. The power of it, had he not been holding her, would have brought her to her knees. Nor could she forget that he had given her pleasure while withholding his own. She’d detected the proof of his desire and once he’d brought her to orgasm, he could have used her up against the car.

Yet he hadn’t.

That little kernel spoke volumes as to Graham’s character.

He was the opposite of everything her ex-husband had been; Graham was a hard worker, kind, considerate, and willing to put others before his own comfort.

And when she’d finally stumbled in her front door last night, and crawled into bed, instead of dropping off into a blissful abyss, she’d stared at her ceiling, replaying the evening’s ending over and over again.

Because it left her with a question tumbling on repeat around her brain. Would she enjoy sex once more? Could Graham, who made no bones about the fact that he wanted her, be the answer? And did she want him to be?

Phoebe shook her head at her train of thought.

It was a fanciful, girlish line of thought. A dangerous one.

It was just the sort of thought that had led her to make the mistake with Rob. Except, she’d been so young and so starved for male attention that when Rob showed interest, she had ignored the warning signs.

The late start put her behind schedule on an already packed day. She was slated to begin work on the gardens. Or, more aptly, remove all the dead plants and till the earth to prepare it for new plants. Yesterday morning, she’d met with the lawn and garden specialist at a nearby hardware store, where he had helped her put together a design. She had ordered the bricks for the paved walkway she planned to install, and some stone benches to place throughout the garden for guests to sit and enjoy nature.

But to have it ready for the brick delivery at the end of next week meant she had to spend the rest of this week and the first part of next week clearing all the dead crud out first.

That was on top of meeting the security guy Graham recommended today, too.

At the thought of Graham, her cheeks heated. What they had done last night, what she had allowed, filled her with awe and uncertainty. Awe that she had climaxed so quickly under Graham’s sensual expertise.
